🌍 EBS Insight: India – The Talent Powerhouse of the World
India stands at a defining moment in its growth journey a moment where it has the potential not just to participate in the global economy, but to set the global agenda.
With the fastest-growing large economy, an unmatched demographic advantage, a vast domestic market, and a thriving pool of STEM graduates, India is uniquely positioned to become the Manpower Base of the World much like how China became the Manufacturing Base of the World.
In an inspiring article, Mr. Kali Prasad Gadiraju, Chairman of EBS, explores why India is emerging as the Talent Powerhouse of the World and how the country can harness its demographic dividend through skill development and education reform.
“India may not yet have created global product brands, but it has built world-class service brands powered by its high-quality talent,” notes Mr. Gadiraju.
Drawing a parallel with China’s transformation, he points out that just as China evolved from producing low-cost imitations to leading global industries like technology, automobiles, and electronics, India too is evolving from being known for low-cost manpower to producing world-class professionals who lead global corporations, consulting firms, and academic institutions. Today, it’s nearly impossible to find a global boardroom without an Indian at the table.
This evolution has propelled India into becoming the largest hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) a testament to its growing influence in the global talent ecosystem.
Mr. Gadiraju offers a powerful perspective on the value of talent versus products:
✅ Products create value once, at the point of sale.
✅ Talent, on the other hand, creates value continuously over decades.
Hence, manpower export can be more sustainable than product export provided India invests in producing high-quality, globally competitive talent. A stable economy and progressive tax environment can further help channel the savings of this global workforce back into India, fueling long-term growth.
However, there’s a crucial caveat. With the rapid rise of Generative AI, low-end roles are being replaced at an accelerating pace. Unless India overhauls its education system and emphasizes skill development, critical thinking, and innovation, its demographic advantage could quickly turn into a liability.
The opportunity before India is immense but so is the urgency for transformation.
As Mr. Gadiraju highlights,
“The choice is ours: Will we shape the future of global talent or be swept away by it?”
💡 EBS believes that with a strategic focus on upskilling, education, and continuous learning, India can solidify its position as the Talent Powerhouse of the World leading the next wave of global growth.
