Altman Self-Rating Mania Scale (ASRM)

The Altman Self-Rating Mania Scale (ASRM) is a concise, self-administered tool designed to assess the presence and severity of manic or hypomanic symptoms, commonly associated with bipolar disorder. Developed by Dr. Edward Altman and colleagues in 1997, the ASRM consists of five items that evaluate key areas such as mood elevation, self-confidence, sleep patterns, speech, and activity levels over the past week.
Each item is rated on a scale from 0 to 4, with higher scores indicating more severe symptoms. A total score of 6 or higher suggests the presence of manic or hypomanic symptoms and may warrant further clinical evaluation. The ASRM is valued for its brevity and ease of use, making it suitable for both clinical settings and personal self-assessment.

Please note that while the ASRM is a useful screening tool, it is not a substitute for a comprehensive evaluation by a qualified mental health professional.
