LEARNING THE HARD WAY by Mukund M A
We often hear the saying that “the best lessons are learned the hard way.” People believe that when an experience is tough, painful, or emotionally intense, it leaves a lasting imprint that shapes our decisions and character.
But as Mukund M A thoughtfully points out, this belief doesn’t universally apply.
While personal experience can be a great teacher, learning the hard way is not always the wisest or safest path. Some lessons, when taken through trial and error, come with consequences that may be far too costly. These are experiences that:
- Bring deep regret that is incredibly difficult sometimes impossible to recover from
- Affect future opportunities in irreversible ways
- Or, in the worst cases, completely alter the course of one’s life
Mukund emphasizes the importance of risk assessment before choosing experiential learning. Not every mistake is worth making. Not every lesson requires walking into fire to understand heat.
Sometimes, true wisdom lies in learning from others, in pausing before acting, and in choosing a safer, smarter path.
So the next time you feel compelled to “learn it the hard way,” take a moment.
Reflect.
Assess.
Choose wisely. 😉
