How do I make the switch? Where do I even begin? The entire process feels incredibly overwhelming and daunting.

This is a common question in my coaching conversations, but as we dig deeper, the real reason often comes down to comfort zones.

Many of us stay in our comfort zones in our careers. When the time comes to consider a career shift to a new industry, a different role, or even starting your own venture, it can feel overwhelming.

Earlier this month, I had an insightful conversation with Prabir Jha about how he navigated his career shifts with ease. Prabir generously shared his invaluable playbook with us. I highly recommend watching this video—it’s packed with pearls of wisdom that you won’t want to miss.

        Here are three key takeaways:

        👉🏻 Embrace Vulnerability:
When Prabir moved from the civil service to the corporate world, he had to adjust to a new culture and hierarchy. It wasn’t easy, and it involved a lot of uncertainty and adaptation. The key, he said, is to embrace Vulnerability. Be okay with acknowledging that you don’t know everything and be open to learning. This mindset helps you adapt to new environments and challenges more effectively.

        👉🏻 Cultivate Learnability:
Transitioning from engineering to IT or becoming a CHRO at a large company like Tata Motors required Prabir to learn continuously. He emphasized the importance of being willing to learn from everyone, regardless of their position. This humility and eagerness to learn can help you acquire the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in any role.

        👉🏻Show Gratitude:
Gratitude can make a significant difference in your career. Appreciating the help and support from colleagues, mentors, and even juniors can foster a positive work environment. Prabir highlighted that careers are built with the support of others, and expressing Gratitude can strengthen these relationships, making people more inclined to support you.

💡 Are you ready to make your next career shift?

Join me this Thursday, May 30, 2024 (link in the description), as I speak to Nathan SV, another stalwart, leader, fantastic storyteller, and mentor whom I look up to. He will share his stories and the stories of many more people he has helped throughout his career make successful career shifts.
