      Several Regions in India celebrate the start of the new year according to their local traditions and calendars:

      • Vishu (Kerala) is a significant festival celebrated primarily in the Indian state of Kerala, marking the astronomical new year.
      • Baisakhi (Punjab) – Significant among the Sikh community, marking the Punjabi New Year and the harvest festival, and commemorating the formation of the Khalsa Panth of warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.
      • Pohela Boishakh– (West Bengal and Tripura) – Celebrated as the Bengali New Year, marked by cultural events, traditional food, and large gatherings.
      • Puthandu (Tamil Nadu) – Also known as Tamil New Year, celebrated with decorative kolams, temple visits, and a special dish representing different life flavors.
      • Bohag Bihu– (Assam) – Marks the Assamese New Year, celebrated over several days with feasting, dancing, and traditional attire.
      • Ugadi– (Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka) – Includes special prayers and the making of “Ugadi Pachadi,” a dish symbolic of life’s different flavors.
      • Gudi Padwa (Maharashtra, Goa) – Marathi New Year celebrated with street processions, special food, and the iconic ‘Gudi’ decorations.
