Your body language may shape who you are

Amy Cuddy’s research on body language reveals that we can change other people’s perceptions — and perhaps even our own body chemistry — simply by changing body positions.

        1. Nonverbal Communication Matters:
Our body language influences how others perceive us and how we see ourselves.

        2. Power Poses Boost Confidence:

          • Expansive, open postures (like standing tall with arms wide) can increase feelings of power.

          • Contractive postures (like crossing arms and hunching) make us feel weaker.

        3. Scientific Evidence:

          • A study showed that just two minutes of “high-power posing” increased testosterone (dominance hormone) and decreased cortisol (stress hormone), making people feel more confident.

          • Low-power poses had the opposite effect.

        4. “Fake It Till You Become It”:

          • Even if you don’t feel confident, adopting power poses can gradually make you more confident.

          • This technique helps in stressful situations like interviews, presentations, and leadership roles.

        5. Her Personal Story:

          • Amy shares her struggle with self-doubt after a brain injury and how power posing helped her regain confidence.

          • She encourages people to practice power poses before important situations.

        Main Takeaway:

Changing your posture can change your mindset. Practicing power poses can help you feel and act more confident, ultimately shaping who you are.
