Balancing AI and authenticity
Can relying a bit much on AI tools hurt your chances at landing a job? “Real resumes have scuff marks,” recruiter Steve Levy shares with the Business Insider. And documents, while grammatically and structurally sound, can come across as emotionally vacant, he adds, highlighting the importance of human touch. Common formatting styles, buzzwords like “dynamic”, “innovative”, “cross-functional”, and phrases like “accelerated time-to-market” can clearly signal the use of AI to recruiters. Hiring manager Tejal Rives instead recommends adding personal touches to the document. “There’s no harm in using AI or templates, but the customisation is not there — you’re hurting your chances by sounding like everyone else,” she adds.
