        Books

The Innovator’s DNA by Jeff Dyer, Hal Gregersen, and Clayton M. Christensen explores what truly drives innovative leaders and organizations. The book emphasizes that innovation is not just about innate talent but about cultivating specific behaviors that anyone can learn. Through extensive research, the authors identify five core “discovery skills” that fuel disruptive thinking: questioning, observing, associating, experimenting, and networking.

Questioning pushes innovators to challenge assumptions and reimagine possibilities. Observing helps them uncover unmet needs by studying behaviors and real-world contexts. Associating allows them to connect seemingly unrelated ideas to spark novel solutions. Experimenting encourages rapid testing, learning from failure, and refining ideas, while networking exposes them to diverse perspectives that expand their creative horizons.

The book highlights that while intelligence may be inherited, creativity is largely learned, making innovation a skill that can be developed through deliberate practice. Using case studies of visionary leaders like Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos, the authors demonstrate how these five skills can be applied at both personal and organizational levels. Ultimately, the book offers a practical roadmap for building an innovation mindset and embedding creative problem-solving into everyday practice.
