• How AI reshaped India's online habits

India witnessed a major evolution in Google Search during 2025 as Artificial Intelligence reshaped how users interacted with information. Moving beyond traditional keyword-based queries, Search adopted a more conversational and multimodal approach, positioning AI as an everyday digital assistant rather than a novelty.

At the centre of this transformation was the integration of Gemini 3 into Google Search through the newly introduced AI Mode. This advancement enabled users to ask longer, more complex questions, with Search responding through structured reasoning, comparisons and synthesised insights. The experience marked a shift from simple information retrieval to intelligent problem-solving, research assistance and contextual understanding.

Complementing this was the launch of Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image), which brought on-demand image generation directly into Search. Users could instantly visualise ideas, create basic infographics, explore design concepts and translate abstract thoughts into images—blurring the line between search and creative tools.

Google also expanded multimodal capabilities into commerce with features such as Virtual Apparel Try-On, allowing users to preview clothing from billions of online listings using their smartphones. This integration demonstrated how AI-powered Search is influencing shopping behaviour and digital decision-making.

Beyond functionality, AI-driven Search played a key role in how Indians engaged with cultural moments, sporting achievements and emerging talent throughout the year. From real-time event exploration to creative experimentation, AI has become embedded in daily online activity.
