Sindhu’s Story: Walking Miles, Chasing Dreams

Every morning, 12-year-old Sindhu sets out on a journey that most of us would find exhausting. She walks several kilometers from her home to the nearest bus stop, squeezes into an overcrowded bus, and then walks again—this time to reach her school. But for Sindhu, this is more than just a commute; it’s a step toward her dreams.
Sindhu is the third of five daughters in her family. While her parents work far away in the fields, she and her younger sister live with their uncle in a small village near Yemmiganur. On days she doesn’t attend school, she joins her grandmother in the fields, helping in whatever way she can. Life has never been easy, but Sindhu has never let her circumstances define her.
She finds joy in numbers, solving math problems with a spark in her eyes. When she was introduced to Scratch coding through our Tech Her Forward program, it opened up a whole new world for her. “If I had a laptop, I would work on Scratch all day,” she says with a big smile.
But Sindhu’s dreams don’t stop at coding. She dreams of becoming a District Collector—not just for the power the title holds, but because she wants to end gender discrimination. She envisions a world where girls don’t have to fight for opportunities, where they can chase their dreams without barriers.
Sindhu’s resilience, her hunger to learn, and her unwavering belief in a better future make her an inspiration. She reminds us that even in the toughest of circumstances, determination can light the way forward.
This International Women’s Week, let’s celebrate the aspiring women leaders of tomorrow—young girls like Sindhu, who are redefining what’s possible.
