Why Social Responsibly is an important part of a business organization :
Social responsibility is important for a business organization because it can improve a company’s reputation, attract customers and talent, boost employee morale, enhance brand image, and contribute to long-term sustainability by demonstrating a commitment to ethical practices and positive societal impact beyond just profit-making; essentially building trust with stakeholders and fostering a positive community perception around the business.
Key reasons why social responsibility matters:
-
Improved brand image and customer loyalty:
Customers increasingly favor companies that align with their values, leading to greater loyalty and positive word-of-mouth marketing when a business demonstrates social responsibility.
-
Employee engagement and retention:
Employees are more likely to be motivated and engaged when they feel their company is committed to social good, reducing turnover and boosting productivity.
-
Attracting top talent:
A strong social responsibility track record can attract high-quality employees seeking companies with ethical values.
-
Community building and goodwill:
Engaging with the local community through social initiatives can build positive relationships and strengthen the company’s reputation.
-
Enhanced investor confidence:
Socially responsible companies may be seen as more stable and ethical by investors, potentially leading to increased investment.
-
Innovation and sustainability:
Integrating social responsibility into business practices can encourage creative solutions to environmental and social challenges, promoting long-term sustainability.

CSR takes on different meanings within certain industries and companies:
- Starbucks Corp. (SBUX) has committed to CSR from the start, including sustainability and community welfare. It purchases Fair Trade Certified ingredients to manufacture products and it actively supports sustainable farming in the regions where ingredients are sourced.56
- Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Holdings Inc. has integrated CSR into the core of its operations. Like Starbucks, the company purchases Fair Trade Certified ingredients.78
- Salesforce.com Inc. (CRM) developed what it calls the “1-1-1 model.” The company dedicates 1% of its equity, 1% of its product, and 1% of its employees’ time back to the community.9
- Big-box retailer Target Corp. (TGT) is also well known for its social responsibility programs. It’s donated money to communities in which the stores operate, including education grants.
