Experiantial Learning sharing with Freshers-Srini Jakkam

During my fresher’s hiring process at various campuses (on/off), induction programes and focused group discussions (FGDs), young talent often asked me what are the 3-4 important experiences that I can share. These are groups who are embarking on a new career and aspiring to make it big in life. Following few things I keep sharing.

      1. Firstly, whenever you were given an assignment to complete, do your own

thinking, carry out your own ideas (as far as possible) and do the adequate

ground work. Once the assignment is accepted and commitment is made to deliver, approach the work with joy and energy rather than calling it is drudgery. Apart from time, managing constant energy & self motivation is key trait one has to learn. The quality, speed and positive approach will have a great deal on the success of the assignment.

      2. Secondly, never shrink from accepting the more & diversified

responsibilities and learning from past mistakes. It is the opportunity to

deliver responsibilities will test one’s potential and possibilities. Few young

minds are avoiding taking responsibilities because they prefer an easy life or

short cuts and not prepared to tax their minds. But if one is aimed for growth, one must be prepared to assume larger responsibilities. And in the process its ok to make few mistakes but what is important is learning from mistakes and avoid repeating them. Learning from feedback and willing to adapt one in the constantly evolving corporate cultures will be an added advantage.

3.Thirdly, making Honesty & Integrity is your biggest asset. Honesty &

Integrity should become implicit, inbuilt imperatives throughout the career and it is non-negotiable, nor a destination rather a constant journey. Employers are ok condoning deficient performance and provide an opportunity to continue but they would loath ignoring presenting oneself in dishonest ways. Those resources, who take recourse to dishonest ways to further their career prospects, will be constantly haunted by their conscience that keeps telling them, “You know you are not genuine & truthful and just pretending as nice”. These constant inner voices shatter one’s self-respect and self-confidence, eventually negatively impacts professional credibility. For inner peace and to grow higher in the long run, always choose a right path even if it takes a bit longer than expected.

Your consciousness is best friend, listen to quite often.

Last but not least, let your work speak about your professionalism and personality than always managing perceptions. Great cricketers like Tendulkar, Virat Kohli when confronted with criticism or failures allowed them to reflect, relearn and made their bat speak with tons of runs.
